As part of a nighttime operation conducted by the Golani Brigade's 7006 Battalion, Israeli soldiers infiltrated the village of Hader in southern Syria and destroyed Hezbollah weapons, according to reports from Israeli Channel 12. The channel cited Israeli military sources, but it was not officially confirmed by the army or relayed by other outlets.
According to the report, the operation in Hader took place "about a week and a half ago." The brigade's soldiers reportedly destroyed Hezbollah weapons, including "sniper rifles, Kalashnikovs, RPGs and rockets."
A 'large quantity of arms' in the village
The battalion commander, cited by Channel 12, which did not name him, stated that it was not a "routine" operation, and the decision to infiltrate Hader was based on Israeli intelligence. According to the report, "the village had a large quantity of Hezbollah weapons intended for operations against the Israeli army." Hezbollah was militarily present in Syria, where it fought alongside Bashar al-Assad's army against the rebels.
Located at the border between Syria, Jordan, Lebanon and Israel, the mountainous plateau of the Golan is at the heart of a long-standing dispute between Israel and Syria. Since the Israeli army's occupation of the area in 1967 following the Six-Day War, both countries have disputed its sovereignty.
Following the fall of the Assad regime on Dec. 8, 2024, Israel announced the deployment of its army in the Golan demilitarized buffer zone, at the edge of the occupied part of this plateau. Hader is located in southern Syria, at the boundary of the area monitored by the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF). According to the latest census of the village, dating back to 2004, Hader is populated by 4,819 inhabitants, mainly Druze.
