Man arrested in Baalbeck for selling fake IDs to Syrian refugees

BEIRUT — State Security stated on Friday that it arrested on Tuesday a Syrian person in Baalbeck suspected of forging identity cards and selling them to Syrian refugees and migrants in Lebanon, adding that it also arrested two other Syrians after seizing two forged cards in their possession, according to the state-run National News Agency.

"On 5/27/2025, a patrol from the Baalbek-Hermel Regional Directorate was able to arrest the Syrian [N.Y.] in Baalbek for forging identity cards and selling them to displaced Syrians. The patrol also arrested the Syrians [A.S.] and [A.S.], after seizing two forged cards in their possession, which they had obtained from [N.Y.]. The necessary legal were carried out regarding those arrested and the seized items, in accordance with the directive of the competent judiciary", reads the statement.

Lebanon hosts around 1.5 million Syrian refugees, most of whom fled during the 13-year Syrian Civil War. Several thousands of Syrians also fled to Lebanon in the last months, mainly from the coast of Syria, after massacres targeting the Alawite community, following the fall of the Assad regime.
