Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu said Friday that a new Shin Bet chief must be appointed quickly, assuring that his chosen candidate is not linked to a probe involving his close allies.
"It is imperative to appoint a permanent head of Shin Bet as soon as possible," Netanyahu said in a statement from his office, noting that "the designated chief of Shin Bet (David Zini) would in no way be involved in these investigations," referring to a Shin Bet investigation targeting Netanyahu's close associates suspected of receiving bribes from Qatar.
He is to succeed the resigning director, Ronen Bar.
