BEIRUT — General Directorate of the Internal Security Forces (ISF) announced on Tuesday the initiation of lighting works on the road leading to Beirut International Airport (AIB), starting Wednesday, May 21, and expected to last for at least a month.
“A company will undertake lighting works on the airport road, from the ESCWA building to the Middle East Airlines building, beginning May 21 for a minimum duration of one month. These works will not require any road closures or traffic diversions,” the ISF statement clarified.
Authorities urge citizens to adhere to instructions from law enforcement and respect the installed signage to ease traffic and avoid congestion.
A month ago, a comprehensive rehabilitation project for the road connecting AIB to the capital was officially launched. This route, passing through southern Beirut suburbs, sustained severe damage from the recent Israeli offensive. The project involves restoring eight kilometers of infrastructure between the airport and downtown.
The works include resurfacing the road and sidewalks, replacing damaged barriers, installing new traffic signs, traffic lights, reflective road stripes, and shock absorption systems, all aimed at securing and modernizing the roadway.
