BEIRUT — Lebanese President Joseph Aoun returned to Beirut on Sunday evening after attending the first papal mass of Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican, alongside first lady Neemat Aoun.

Aoun is scheduled to travel to Cairo on Monday for an official visit at the invitation of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. He will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Joe Rajji, Lebanese Ambassador to Egypt Ali Halabi, and a team of advisers.

In recent weeks, Aoun has made a series of visits to Gulf countries as part of efforts to restore diplomatic ties and rebuild trust with Arab states following years of strained relations. He did not attend the recent Arab League summit in Baghdad due to his trip to the Vatican. Lebanon was instead represented by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam.
