Health Minister Rakan Nassereddine conducted an inspection tour on Saturday at the Rafic Hariri Hospital in Beirut, which suffered severely during the economic and financial crisis in the country since 2019.
Nassereddine announced "an initial financial support" aimed at "putting it back on the path to recovery and addressing the growing problems it faces, which prevent it from playing its pivotal role for the most disadvantaged patients."
The budget cuts of this government hospital and the wages of its staff, due to the drastic devaluation of the Lebanese pound, have caused multiple crises and strikes, leading to the closure of several of its services.
The minister added that his tour on Saturday follows intensive meetings held with various active forces concerned with this hospital, "in order to observe the situation on-site in detail." "This initial financial support aims to modernize essential equipment for the sustainability of medical services, as well as to provide it with the necessary equipment for the proper functioning of its laboratory," he continued.
Referring to the frequent staff strikes in recent months, Nassereddine urged "the administration, medical staff, and employees to engage in constructive collaboration for the advancement of this institution," reaffirming "the ministry's commitment to implementing a comprehensive strategic plan aimed at the development and modernization of government hospitals in all regions."
