French President Emmanuel Macron said on Saturday in Tirana that he is "sure" Donald Trump will "react" to Vladimir Putin's "cynicism" following new Russian drone strike in Ukraine.
"Given President Putin's cynicism, I believe, I am even sure, that President Trump, concerned about the credibility of the United States of America, will react," he said during a joint press conference with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama.
"A president was elected by the American people. He came in with a salutary ambition, to make peace, and he said he was going to involve everyone to make peace," added Macron.
On Friday, Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and the British and Polish Prime Ministers, Keir Starmer and Donald Tusk, had already called upon Trump to bear witness to denounce the Russian "refusal" of a cease-fire and to increase pressure on Moscow.
"The cease-fire proposals, which I remind you are an American initiative, have not been respected by President Putin and his armies," Macron reiterated on Saturday.
"We have assembled the coalition of volunteers, then together called upon President Trump saying, here, we are all behind the cease-fire, we will all reengage behind a coalition of volunteers with security guarantees," he added from Tirana, where a summit of European continent leaders was held on Friday.
A few hours after the conclusion of this summit and following peace talks in Istanbul where Russians and Ukrainians agreed on a significant prisoner exchange but did not announce a cease-fire, a Russian drone attack on a minibus carrying civilians resulted in nine deaths and four injuries in northern Ukraine.
