Major fire broke out at midnight Saturday in a Syrian refugee camp in the village of Khirbet Daoud in Akkar (North Lebanon), without causing any casualties, the state-run National News Agency (NNA) reports.
The fire consumed about 37 tents and burned the identity papers of some refugees. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
Many Syrian refugees in Lebanon live in precarious conditions, with makeshift camps being vulnerable to accidents and disasters. In early April, a large fire also broke out in a Syrian refugee camp near the Bassel al-Assad Cultural Center in the city of Sour, South Lebanon.
