BEIRUT — President Joseph Aoun visited Collège Mont La Salle on Friday, his former school, to mark the feast day of the institution’s patron saint, Saint John Baptist de La Salle.

Invited by the school’s administration and its alumni association — of which he is a member — Aoun toured the campus, including the classroom where he studied in 1979, according to a statement from the presidency.

Accompanied by his wife, First Lady Neemat Aoun, the president sat at one of the classroom benches and reunited with several former classmates and teachers.

Saint John Baptist de La Salle (1651–1719), a French priest and founder of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, was canonized in 1900 by Pope Leo XIII. His feast day is observed on May 15.
