Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar on Monday denounced the "systematic persecution" of Israel following the opening of a hearing at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the Netherlands regarding Israel's humanitarian obligations to the Palestinians.

Saar stated that ICJ proceedings were "part of a systematic persecution and delegitimization of Israel," more than 50 days after a total blockade on aid entering the Gaza Strip was imposed. He also criticized the United Nations, on which the ICJ depends, asserting that "it is the U.N. and UNRWA that should be on trial today, not Israel," referring to the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees.
