A farmers' market was inaugurated Monday in Tripoli, North Lebanon, in King Fahd's Garden, in the presence of the Minister of Agriculture Nizar Hani, the president of the Tripoli municipality Riad Yamak, the Italian ambassador to Lebanon, Fabrizio Marcelli, and local figures.
The creation of this market, which is expected to be accessible once a week, was sponsored by the Lebanese Farmers Markets Coalition (LFMC), in cooperation with the Tripoli municipality.
"The goal is to promote local agriculture and offer a commercial alternative to support local production," said Yamak during the event. "We are thus launching an agricultural market for independent producers, to help them make a decent living from their work. We sell these products directly to consumers here," he added.
Agriculture Minister Nizar Hani emphasized that this initiative "is more than just a space for selling products, it's a direct extension of agricultural activity from the fields to the consumer, without intermediaries." "It's an effective tool for supporting family agriculture, promoting decentralized marketing, stimulating the local economy, and establishing a relationship of trust, quality, and sustainability between farmers and consumers," Hani noted.
Farmers markets allow independent producers to make a living from their trade by offering fresh, local, seasonal, and quality products while promoting short supply chains.
