Sursock Museum unveils aliens, 2 suns and a disappearance

In the twin galleries of the Beirut institution, a dual video exhibition is being held until June 29, bringing together the unique visions of visual artists Janaina Wagner and Panos Aprahamian.

Curated by Marie-Nour Heshaime, organized in partnership with the Instituto Guimarães Rosa Beirut and the Brazilian Embassy in Lebanon, two works unfold in a Brazilian setting against a backdrop of contemporary dystopia.Aliens, PFLP and Middle Eastern warsIn the gallery on the left, the diptych imagined by Panos Aprahamian, titled 'The vanguard outside of history,' plays on a loop. The exhibit is set near São Paulo, in a coastal village. One can enter a modest house where a woman and child chat in the chiaroscuro of an intimate scene. She sits on the ground in a ray of light, while he lies on a large bed and translates her words while playing with her hair. They speak of the woman's brother, who left without warning or any trace. We learn that the man, Ypsilon, a name shaped like an unknown, did not know his own father, who...
