U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday released a video showing dozens of Houthi fighters killed in a U.S. strike in Yemen, captioned “Oops,” on his Truth Social network.
The footage, in black and white and taken from an aerial view — as if filmed by a military drone — shows several dozen people gathered in a circle, initially targeted, then bombed. This is followed by thick smoke, then shots of the bombed site, where nothing remains except a few cars.
“These Houthis had gathered to receive instructions for an attack,” Donald Trump wrote under the video. “Oops, there won’t be any attacks by these Houthis. They will never sink our ships again!” he added.
On Tuesday, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt expressed satisfaction over more than “200 successful strikes” against the Houthis, amid heightened tensions between the U.S. and Yemeni rebels. Washington also announced earlier in the week the deployment of a second aircraft carrier to the Middle East.
The Houthis have been targeting commercial navigation in the Red Sea since the start of the Gaza war in October 2023, disrupting access to the Suez Canal which accounts for 12% of global maritime traffic. They claim to be targeting ships linked to Israel, in solidarity with the Palestinians.
