The Lebanese Army announced Thursday, in a statement, that it had prevented 192 Syrians from crossing the border into Lebanon in the northern region. “As part of the fight against illegal infiltration and cross-border trafficking, army units thwarted attempts by 192 Syrians to infiltrate the border in the northern region,” the army noted.
The Lebanese authorities aim to strengthen the army to address issues related to the porous border with Syria. Last week, the army reported several operations related to combating smuggling and trafficking at the northern and eastern borders of Lebanon, and indicated it had closed six illegal crossing points in Hermel, arresting suspected traffickers.
