Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday defended his aides embroiled in allegations they had received financing from Qatar, saying the Gulf country, which has no diplomatic relations with Israel, was "not an enemy state."

Netanyahu, in a video statement shared by his Likud party, said that "Qatar is a complex country, it is not a simple country, but it is not an enemy state," arguing that his aides are wrongly accused as "many praise" Qatar in Israel, including his political rivals and security officials.
