When speaking to Lebanese living in Turkey, while some were fearful of discussing opposition to the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, targeted by unprecedented protests since Gezi in 2013, following the arrest for ‘corruption’ on March 19 of Istanbul's mayor, Ekrem Imamoglu, leader of the main Turkish opposition force, the Republican People's Party (CHP), others do not hide their support for "the Reis."This second group is thought to be the majority among the Lebanese community living in Turkey, which numbers "several thousand" according to Joe Hammoura, a researcher at the Middle East Institute for Research and Strategic Studies (MEIRSS), while Ankara maintains close ties with many associations in North Lebanon, according to L'Orient-Le Jour's regional correspondent.
