An Israeli drone strike reportedly killed a Hezbollah official in southern Lebanon's Qaaqaiyet al-Jisr (Nabatieh district) on Monday evening, according to our correspondent in southern Lebanon.

The Israeli drone directly targeted a car in the center of the village of Qaaqaiyet al-Jisr, setting the vehicle on fire. The Health Ministry confirmed one was killed in the evening drone strike. The driver, killed in the strike, was identified as a Hezbollah official named Hassan Kamal Halaweh, reported our correspondent.

The Israeli army did not issue a statement regarding the assassination.

Israeli drone activity from southern Lebanon to Beirut

Earlier in the day on Monday, Israeli drones overflew various regions in Lebanon.

In southern Lebanon, Israeli drones were reported flying over the border districts up to the city of Saida and Iqlim al-Kharoob.

Additionally, an Israeli Hermes 450 drone, which was carrying missiles, flew at low altitude over the Nahr Srifa-Shahour region (Sour), as well as Kfar Sir and its surroundings (Nabatieh).

Israeli artillery fire also hit the outskirts of Shebaa (Hasbaya). Another drone was observed in the morning flying over the Anti-Lebanon mountain range (near the border with syria) and Baalbeck district, reported our regional correspondent.

Witnesses also reported an aircraft flying over the outskirts of Beirut and its southern suburb.

On Saturday, Israel launched a series of strikes in southern Lebanon, killing eight people, including a child, in what its military claimed was a response to three rockets fired into its territory. This is the first such incident since the cease-fire took effect on Nov. 27. No group claimed responsibility for the rocket attack, which according to a military source, originated noth of the Litani River, between the villages of Kfar Tibnit and Arnoun, in the Nabatieh district. However, the Lebanese Army released a statement specifying that the rockets were launched from an area six kilometers away from the border with Israel. For its part, Hezbollah denied any involvement in the rocket attack.

On Monday, a Lebanese official who requested anonymity told AFP that Lebanese authorities had engaged in intensive talks with Washington and Paris to prevent Israel from bombing Beirut.

A cease-fire agreement that came into effect on Nov. 27 ended a deadly war between Israel and Hezbollah. It stipulates that the Lebanese Army and U.N. peacekeepers are the only forces to be deployed south of the Litani River, and that Hezbollah dismantles its infrastructure and withdraws north of the river.
