Faced with Erdogan's autocratic turn, 'Turks can only rely on themselves'

Incarcerated on Sunday after a judicial campaign led by Ankara, accusing him of corruption and support for terrorism, Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu called on his supporters to take to the streets. In several cities across the country, massive demonstrations erupted in support of this leading figure of the main Turkish opposition force, the Republican People's Party (CHP), who was supposed to be vested on the same day as his party's candidate for the 2028 presidential election.
