The military wing of the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP) denied on Saturday any involvement in the rocket fire launched from southern Lebanon toward Israel.
“A false report attributed to a television channel is circulating, claiming that the party’s military wing has claimed responsibility for launching rockets from southern Lebanon toward Israel,” the SSNP said in a statement. “We affirm that this information is completely false, and that the SSNP’s armed wing denies any connection to the rocket fire. It upholds the primacy of the role of the state, the government, and the army in halting Israeli attacks on Lebanon and in managing all security-related matters,” the statement continued.
In retaliation for three rockets fired and intercepted over the northern Israeli town of Metula, Israel shelled at least six villages in southern Lebanon and conducted airstrikes on 18 additional sites, killing and wounding several people in the village of Touline (Marjayoun district). Hezbollah has also denied any involvement in the rocket fire. The escalation prompted a wave of unified calls for restraint and condemnations of Israeli ceasefire violations from Lebanese officials.
