Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on Saturday condemned what he described as "attempts to drag Lebanon back into the spiral of violence," following unclaimed rocket fire from southern Lebanon, according to a statement posted on the presidency’s official X account.
Aoun said that what took place in the South on Saturday — along with the ongoing violations observed since Feb. 18, the deadline for implementing the terms of the truce — amounts to “a continued assault on Lebanon and a blow to the rescue plan that the Lebanese had unanimously agreed upon.”
He also called on all relevant forces in southern Lebanon, particularly the committee overseeing the November 2024 truce agreement, as well as the Army, to follow developments “with the utmost seriousness to prevent repercussions and to put an end to any violation that could threaten the country in these delicate circumstances.”
The head of state further urged Army Commander Gen. Rodolphe Haykal to take necessary measures on the ground to “preserve the safety of citizens and investigate the circumstances of the rocket fire.”
