Lebanese Forces (LF) announced Friday their alliance with former MP Mansour el-Bone for the municipal elections in the Kesrwan region. Normally these elections are scheduled for May, following delays each year since 2022 by Parliament due to the socio-economic crisis and, in 2024, the war.
In a joint statement, the LF and al-Bone confirmed their "alliance in the upcoming municipal elections in the villages of Kesrwan and their commitment to cooperate in order to achieve the widest possible change." According to them, this alliance will "form the basis of a new phase of alliance for the upcoming legislative elections. While helping to consolidate common regional and national objectives and support the political positions of the LF."
On Saturday, LF leader Samir Geagea and MP Nadim Gemayel, member of the Kataeb party, discussed the need to form a coalition for the election. "We must cooperate to form the largest possible coalition in Beirut to ensure the best representation of all regions in the capital," Gemayel said, without specifying which parties or political forces are being considered in this coalition.
The last municipal elections in Lebanon took place in 2016, and councils were elected for six years. A large number of municipal councils have since resigned or are unable to carry out their duties due to a lack of financial and human resources. In early March, Interior Minister Ahmad Hajjar announced that the first phase of municipal elections will begin on May 4.
