Hezbollah condemned on Sunday what it described as "blatant American-British aggression" against Yemen, which targeted residential areas in the capital, Sanaa, and other provinces, killing at least 31 people.

"This aggression is a desperate attempt to deter this proud people from continuing their heroic support for the Palestinian people and from maintaining pressure to lift the unjust siege on Gaza and deliver humanitarian aid," stated the party, a longtime ally of the Yemeni rebels.

The Houthis are part of what Iran calls the 'Axis of Resistance' against Israel, which also includes the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, Hezbollah in Lebanon, and Iraqi factions. The Houthis have launched multiple missile attacks against Israel and ships suspected of links to it, claiming to act in solidarity with Palestinians following the outbreak of the Gaza war, triggered by a Hamas attack on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.

U.S. President Donald Trump vowed on Saturday to bring "hell" to the "Houthi terrorists" following their threats against maritime trade and Israel, and demanded that Iran cease its support for the rebels. Tehran responded by condemning the strikes as "barbaric" and warning that it would retaliate against any attack.

Hezbollah also called on "all resistance forces in our region to speak out strongly against Arab and international silence and the impotence of global institutions that submit to the American administration."

Following the implementation of a fragile ceasefire in Gaza on Jan. 19, after 15 months of destructive war, the Houthis had ceased their attacks. However, on March 11, they announced their intention to resume strikes off Yemen’s coast against commercial ships they believe are linked to Israel, after Israel refused to allow humanitarian aid to enter Gaza.

With Hezbollah's weakening in Lebanon — leading to a ceasefire with Israel on November 27, followed by the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria, cutting the Lebanese Shiite movement’s supply routes — Iran’s influence in the Middle East has significantly diminished.
