BEIRUT — On Thursday, the Lebanese Army denounced the "persistence of the Israeli enemy" in its attacks on Lebanese territory, which continue despite the cease-fire taking effect on Nov. 27, 2024, stating that they "threaten Lebanon's stability."
"The persistence of the Israeli enemy in its attacks threatens Lebanon's stability and negatively impacts regional stability. This is entirely contradicts the cease-fire agreement," said the Lebanese Army in a statement.
"The Israeli enemy continues its attacks against Lebanon's sovereignty, by land, sea and air," the army added, denouncing particularly a "series of operations targeting civilians in the South and the Bekaa, in addition to the continued occupation of Lebanese territories and repeated border violations."
The army specifies, in its statement, that its units "continue to support the return of residents in the southern regions by dealing with unexploded munitions and reopening roads."
"The army command monitors the situation and takes the necessary measures, in coordination with the cease-fire oversight commission and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL)," it added. This commission, led by U.S. General Jasper Jeffers, is responsible for monitoring the execution of the cease-fire.
The cease-fire agreement came into effect, to put an end to a war between Israel and Hezbollah that had been ongoing since Oct. 8, 2023, and had intensified to a full-scale war in September. It stipulates a gradual Israeli withdrawal from occupied villages in South Lebanon, allowing the Lebanese Army to deploy in areas previously under Hezbollah's influence. However, even after the transitional period ended on Feb. 18, the Israeli army has maintained its occupation of "five strategic points" in South Lebanon, expanded its presence to two other sites and continues daily operations against alleged Hezbollah members.
Israeli gunfire and overflights
Despite the conclusion of a cease-fire, Israeli violations remain daily in South Lebanon. On Thursday, Israeli gunfire in Kfar Kila, a village in the Marjayoun district completely destroyed during the last war, injured three civilians, reported our regional correspondent. The three men were "collecting scrap metal in the area."
Earlier, at midday, an Israeli army drone launched a stun grenade at a shepherd, injuring him, on the outskirts of the village of Rmeish (Bint Jbeil district).
Additionally, six Israeli drones flew at low altitudes over the localities of Jebsheet, Doueir, Toul, Harouf, Abba, Sharkieh and Zebdine, in the Nabatieh district. Other drones were also spotted over Sour and its surroundings.
In the morning, an Israeli drone dropped two stun bombs near Bourj al-Moulouk, in the Marjayoun district, where residents were inspecting their homes.
The Bekaa was not spared, with Israeli reconnaissance planes flying over the region throughout the day.
