President Joseph Aoun personally submitted his asset and interest declaration to the National Anti-Corruption Commission on Tuesday morning. Judge Claude Karam, the president of this commission, received the document.
The National Anti-Corruption Commission was established by law No. 175 of May 8, 2020, but it was only formed at the end of January 2022.
The recording of asset and wealth declarations of civil servants and public agents is part of the commission's responsibilities. The law requires that anyone holding a public position from the 4th category up to the post of president must submit their declaration shortly after taking office. Failure to do so is regarded as a resignation, among other legal consequences.
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and Minister of Information Paul Morcos have already complied with this obligation.
