Health Minister Rakan Nasreddine announced Monday the closure of daycares Tuesday in mountainous areas located at an altitude above 500 meters.
This decision was made due to the significant drop in temperatures in Lebanon, which has been hit by a storm since the weekend, he stated in a press release.
While January had been particularly mild, a severe storm struck Lebanon at the end of February, covering all mountainous regions with a white blanket since Sunday evening, including at low altitudes. The Ministry of Public Works, whose teams are working to reopen snow-covered roads, has urged citizens to exercise caution in mountainous areas. The weather will remain unstable and very cold until Tuesday. Temperatures will then begin to rise slightly but will remain low, below the seasonal norms. The risk of ice will persist, particularly at night and in the early morning, in mountains starting from 700 meters. The weather will be cloudy Tuesday and Wednesday, with fog in the mountains.
