Israel demands "the total demilitarization of southern Syria" and will not tolerate the deployment of forces from the new Syrian power south of Damascus, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday.
"We will not allow the forces of the organization HTS (Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham, whose forces overthrew President Bashar al-Assad in December,) or the new Syrian army to enter the area south of Damascus," he said during a speech to a new class of officers in Holon, central Israel. "We demand the total demilitarization of southern Syria," he added.
