BEIRUT — As Storm Adam rolls into the country, roads in the Lebanese mountains are already blocked by snowfall, according to information from the traffic directorate in Lebanon shared on Saturday morning.
The roads of Ainata al-Arz, Baalbeck-Kfardebiane, Akoura-Baalbeck, Hermel-Sir al-Dennieh, Hermel-Koubayate, Maasser al-Chouf-Kifri are completely impassable. The Tarshishe-Zahle road is accessible for four-wheel-drive vehicles only, according to the directorate. All these roads connect Mount Lebanon to the Bekaa Valley.
In southern Lebanon, it's snowing in Jezzine, at an altitude of 1,300 meters above sea level, as well as in Khiam, which sits about 700 meters up from sea level. Snow was also reported in Beit Mery, just outside of Beirut, at an altitude of 800 meters.
January was a particularly dry month for Lebanon, which usually sees heavy rainfall throughout the winter months, but precipitation picked up again in February.
