BEIRUT — Lebanon defeated Bahrain's national team Friday night in Group F of the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 Qualifiers, 84 to 78 at the Khalifa Sport City stadium in Qatar.
The Cedars built a 14-point lead with less than three minutes left in the game, which would have seen them winning by a much larger margin if Bahrain hadn't fought back bringing the score to 82-78 before Lebanon scored again in the last 15 seconds.
The game's MVP was veteran center Ater Majok who top-scored for Bahrain under Coach Miodrag Perisic with 18 points on a near-perfect 7-of-8 shooting from the floor and five rebounds, according to the International Basketball Federation's (FIBA) website.
Close second was Lebanon'svWael Arakji, who delivered 17 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. "The star guard dazzled anew with a bevy of highlight-worthy plays," FIBA's game wrap up states.
Lebanon is one match away from finishing first in its group and remains on a five-match undefeated streak. The Cedars look to beat the United Arab Emirates in a home game at Zouk Mikael on Monday.
