Despite U.S. demands, Abu Dhabi struggles to distance itself from Chinese tech

To finalize a $1.5 billion partnership with Microsoft in April 2024, the Emirati tech conglomerate G-42 had to comply with U.S. requirements: Remove all Chinese equipment from its facilities. And to prove it, this digital empire opened its doors to Microsoft officials, in front of whom Huawei equipment was dismantled and discarded, according to a report by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) published on Jan. 24. G-42 also claimed to have strengthened the security of its data centers, while the U.S. fears information or technology leaks to countries considered hostile like China.
