The new Lebanese Industry Minister, Joe Issa al-Khoury (affiliated with the Kataeb party), committed to strengthening production under the 'Made in Lebanon' label on Thursday during the handover ceremony at the Ministry.
In his speech, Khoury highlighted the "determination to achieve a revival of the industrial sector." He reiterated that this sector is essential for job creation and the inflow of foreign currency into the country through exports. In this context, the minister pledged to "strengthen the 'Made in Lebanon' label, which has become a trademark that enhances the name of Lebanon at home and abroad." "This label is synonymous with quality and facilitates export as well as the opening of new markets by relying on standards and adopting international norms," he said.
His predecessor Georges Bouchikian thanked the Ministry's employees, the Industrial Research Institute and Libnor, the Lebanese Standards Institution, which is the only body responsible for establishing national Lebanese standards in all sectors across the country, for their "success" during his tenure. He praised having been able, during his three years at the helm of the Ministry, to "adopt innovative methods and succeed in bringing the national productive sector out of the deadlock it was in, thereby reinforcing confidence in local and foreign markets." According to him, this ensured investments and expanded sector activities despite the risks associated with the situation, particularly the recent war.
