The Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP) and the village of al-Saida, west of Baalbeck, buried one of their dead yesterday in the village cemetery. The deceased, Ibrahim Mohammad al-Kalamish, was killed in the clashes with Israel. He had fallen "on the second day of the border clashes" near the town of Bint Jbeil in southern Lebanon, according to the party. The secretary-general of the SSNP, Rabih Banat, as well as representatives from Hezbollah and the Amal Movement, were present.

Hezbollah had opened a support front with Gaza on Oct. 8, 2023, following the Israeli attack on the Gaza Strip after the Hamas attack in Israel. The war in Lebanon then intensified at the end of September, before concluding with a fragile cease-fire, which came into effect on Nov. 27, 2024, and is set to end on Feb. 18 following an extension.
