A recent series of crimes and offenses across the country have shaken public opinion these past days. On Monday, the outgoing Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi announced several measures taken by the security forces. Notably, he mentioned the intensification of patrols throughout the territory, and the strengthening of the police forces, and emphasized that the Lebanese army would maintain "increased surveillance" of the border area between Lebanon (North-East) and Syria, calling for "enhanced cooperation from Syrian authorities." He stated that "the number of arrests is increasing" in Lebanon, specifying that 1,920 people had been arrested for various offenses during the month of January.
