Israel’s new chief of staff, General Eyal Zamir, said on Wednesday that the army’s mission against Hamas in the Gaza Strip “is not over.” Speaking at an official ceremony, Zamir described the leadership transition as a “historic moment” rather than a routine handover. “Hamas has suffered a heavy blow, but it is not yet defeated,” he said. “The mission is not yet over.”His remarks come to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's pleasure, as he signals a possible resumption of the war in Gaza, despite the cease-fire that took effect on Jan. 19.Netanyahu seems to be trying to write a new chapter within the ranks of the Israeli army after Oct. 7.
