BEIRUT — A person was killed in Faraya (Keserwan) on Saturday night following an argument over the right of way, according to local media outlets.
Following the argument, the suspect, identified as "J.C.," 25, followed the victim, K.K., to the hotel where his family was staying and ran over him deliberately.
After noticing a car moving suspiciously outside, the victim's sister came out of the hotel and was shocked to see her brother's body lying on the ground.
The incident sparked widespread anger in Faraya amid demands for the arrest of the perpetrator. Security agencies are continuing their investigations to uncover the circumstances of what happened and arrest the perpetrator.
Several crimes have occurred in Lebanon in the past few days for different reasons, most of them related to robbery.
On Sunday, a road in Faraya was blocked with burning tires by people demanding the extradition of K.K.'s killers, according to local media outlets.
The state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported on the crime, saying that J.C. and another person, identified as R.A., hit K.K. on the head, causing severe injuries. NNA added that the victim was taken by the Red Cross to St. George's Hospital in Ajaltoun, where he succumbed to his injuries. It is unclear whether this happened after J.C. ran him over.
NNA also reported that the two assailants fled to an unknown destination.
The municipality of Hrajel denounced the killing of Khalil Khalil in Faraya, expressing their deep sorrow for this tragedy, according to the state-run National News Agency,
The municipality called for a "transparent and fair investigation to bring the perpetrator to justice."
It "appreciated the position of the perpetrator's family who expressed their strong condemnation of the incident and stood by the family of the deceased in demanding justice."
NNA reported on Sunday afternoon that an army intelligence patrol arrested two suspects, R.S. and J.C., in connection with the Faraya killing in the village of Aaiyat in Akkar after a driver dropped them off in the area.
Investigations were launched to find out their full identities, NNA added.
