France congratulated Lebanon’s new Prime Minister, Nawaf Salam, on Tuesday, expressing hope for his success at this "historic moment" for Lebanon, according to a statement from the French Foreign Affairs Ministry.

"Following the election of President Joseph Aoun last week, this appointment represents a new source of hope for Lebanon and the Lebanese people," the statement read. Paris also called for the swift formation of a "strong government" capable of uniting Lebanon’s diverse communities. The government, it said, would be tasked with implementing the vital reforms necessary for Lebanon's recovery and to unlock financial support from the international community and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which could pave the way for the country’s return to prosperity.

France underscored that these reforms are crucial for restoring Lebanon’s "security and sovereignty across its territory."

"The Lebanese Prime Minister will be able to count on France's full support in his missions, for the benefit of all Lebanese,” the statement concluded.

Salam was nominated by the parliamentary blocs on Monday, securing 84 votes after a day of binding consultations between MPs and the president. He resigned as president of the International Court of Justice in The Hague following his appointment. On Tuesday, Salam arrived at Baabda Palace to meet with President Joseph Aoun.
