Halabi says Thursday is a normal teaching day despite presidential elections

BEIRUT — Caretaker Minister of Education Abbas Halabi announced in a statement that Thursday is a normal teaching day in all public and private educational institutions,” despite the scheduled presidential election session, according to the state-run National News Agency.

 “The security measures related to the election of the President are limited to the vicinity of the Parliament only, and there is no need to disrupt classes," he said.

The Parliament will convene at 11 a.m. on Thursday to elect a new president following more than two years of presidential vacuum.

On Oct. 30, 2016, the day former president Michel Aoun got elected, classes were suspended across Lebanon.
