On Thursday, Hezbollah strongly condemned the recent “Israeli-American aggression in Yemen, which targeted civilian installations, in flagrant violation of all international and humanitarian norms and laws,” following Israeli strikes on Wednesday night.
The Israeli army carried out deadly strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen on Thursday morning, a few hours after a missile attack against Israel claimed by the Yemeni rebels, who also claimed responsibility for new strikes on military targets in the Tel Aviv region.
The Israeli strikes, which targeted infrastructure, were presented by Israel as retaliation for a ballistic missile strike on Tel Aviv.
According to Nasruddin Amer, deputy head of the Houthi media office, nine Yemenis were killed and three injured by Israeli strikes targeting a port and oil facility near Sanaa. The rebel-affiliated Al-Masirah TV station reported that the Heyzaz and Dhahban power plants near the capital, as well as the port of Hodeidah and the Ras Isa oil facility, were among the targets.
Hezbollah accused Israel of resorting to these strikes because of “the enemy's failure to achieve its strategic objectives on all fronts,” adding that the attacks carried out by the Houthis had “exposed the fragility of its security and military system.” In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned the Houthis on Thursday that “whoever strikes Israel will pay a very high price,” in a video released by his office.
The leader of Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels confirmed on Thursday the deaths of nine people in Israeli airstrikes.
“The Israeli enemy targeted the ports of Hodeida and the power stations of Sanaa, and the Israeli aggression caused the martyrdom of nine civilians,” said Abdel Malek al-Houthi, in a lengthy speech broadcast by the rebels' TV channel.
