Traders, industrialists, pharmacists and other small business owners in Nabatieh, southern Lebanon, will hold a sit-in on Thursday to demand compensation for damages to their premises and merchandise caused by Israeli bombardments during the recent war, according to the Nabatieh Traders' Association.
The association said the sit-in aims to show solidarity with professionals impacted by the war in Lebanon between Israel and Hezbollah, particularly during heavy Israeli strikes from September to November.
Nabatieh’s historic souks, several heritage homes, and the municipal headquarters were destroyed in Israeli bombardments, which also killed the town's municipal council president and several officials.
The destruction across the region is estimated to amount to billions of dollars. On Monday, Hezbollah began distributing funds to residents in Nabatieh whose homes were damaged, with compensation handed out at branches of al-Qard al-Hassan, the group's financial institution. A ceasefire, in effect since Nov. 27, has brought relative calm to the area.
