U.S. Military Central Command announced on Sunday that it will deploy a strike group consisting of two aircraft carriers and three destroyers to "ensure regional stability and security," Haaretz reported Sunday.

Gen. Michael Kurilla, the head of the U.S. Central Command met Israeli army chief Herzl Halevi in Israel on Sunday to discuss security assessments, the Israeli army announced cited by Haaretz.

The U.S. military's decision to deploy additional naval forces comes amid heightened tensions as the war between Israel and Hamas that kickstarted on Oct.7 2023 wages on.

Since Oct. 7, the U.S. has sent carrier groups to the region in the hopes of averting a larger regional conflict. It has also done so to provide support to Israel when Iran was threatening direct retaliation on the key American ally.
