A "Christmas Marathon" will be held this Sunday in Jounieh, organized by the Beirut Marathon Association, known for hosting the annual marathon in the Lebanese capital.
According to a statement on the association’s website, two races are scheduled in the streets of Jounieh, the Kesrouan district's capital: a 5 km competitive run and a 3 km fun run. Both races will start and finish at Fouad Chehab Stadium. Participants in the competitive run will set off at 7:00 a.m., while those in the fun run will begin 45 minutes later. Registration details are available on the association’s website.
In preparation for the event, the General Directorate of the Internal Security Forces (ISF) announced that it would close intersections along the route, including both lanes from the stadium to the Kaslik Military Bath, between 5:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. on race day.
"Citizens are advised to take note and follow the directions of ISF personnel and the signage placed along the route to facilitate traffic flow and avoid congestion," the ISF added.
From Nov. 8 to 30, Beirut Marathon launched a "virtual race" in support of displaced Lebanese, allowing runners worldwide to participate remotely to raise funds for families sheltering in a Beirut school amid the ongoing war between Israel and Hezbollah.
Jounieh was not targeted by bombings, except for a strike on a car traveling on the highway on Oct. 14.
