Turkey convinced Russia and Iran not to intervene in Syria during the rebel offensive that led to the fall of Bashar al-Assad, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said Friday.

"The most important thing was to speak with the Russians and Iranians and ensure they wouldn’t enter the equation militarily. We spoke with them, and they understood. [...] They saw that it no longer made sense," Fidan said during a live interview broadcast on the Turkish private channel NTV.
