Beirut MP Nadim Gemayel (Kataeb) called on Hezbollah on Sunday “to hand over its weapons,” during a rally in the Sassine district of Achrafieh to mark the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime.

“It's true that Hezbollah is a terrorist party, but it's going to hand in its weapons one day, because it has no other choice ... The real legitimacy lies in the weapons of the Lebanese Army,” stressed Gemayel in front of around a 100 supporters of the Kataeb and the Lebanese Forces, and in the presence of MPs and opposition figures.

“The statues of the Assad family are falling one by one, but we are staying while they are relegated to oblivion. We're celebrating today because Bashar has fled and the regime has fallen,” added the Kataeb deputy.

“The regime that killed its people and kidnapped Lebanese has fallen,” said Zghorta MP Michel Moawad. For his part, former minister Ahmad Fatfat asserted that he rejected illegal weapons, “without wanting to eliminate anyone.” “To rebuild the state, we must start by handing over the weapons ... Lebanon cannot continue if we are not united,” he added.
