⚡ So far, four people have been confirmed killed in the attack and another 28 injured, according to the Health Ministry, although this toll is likely to rise, with search and rescue operation underway amid significant damage.

05:16 Beirut Time

According to the state-run National News Agency and residents from Basta, the targeted building is located on Maamoun Street. The building was eight stories, which have now been reduced to rubble

05:02 Beirut Time

There is speculation across several local news outlets that the munitions used by Israel in the attack on Basta were the same "bunker buster" bombs it used to assassinate Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and his presumed successor Hashem Saffiedine.

These 2,000-pound bombs were withheld from U.S. shipments of arms to Israel starting in May out of concerns from the Biden administration that they would be used in civilian areas.

04:55 Beirut Time

At least four missiles were launched at the targeted building in Basta in an attack that, as has been the case with all Israel's bombings of central Beirut during this war, came without warning.

04:38 Beirut Time

Videos sent to L'Orient Today from Basta shows some of the damage inflicted on the area by the attack.  A large crater can be seen in the ground and ambulances arriving on the scene.

04:31 Beirut Time

The strike hit Fatallah Street in the Basta neighborhood, completely leveling at least one building and igniting several fires, according to local media.

A resident contacted by L'Orient Today said the bombing had taken place in the same place where the Israeli army struck on Oct. 10, when 22 people were killed in two subsequent strikes on Basta and Ras al-Nabaa and another building also leveled.

04:17 Beirut Time

🔴 Three loud explosions were heard throughout Beirut at 4 a.m., with initial reports from local media saying the central Beirut neighborhood of Basta has been attacked by Israeli jets.

00:26 Beirut Time

🔴 Half an hour after issuing evacuation warnings for three buildings in Ghobeiri and Haret Hreik, in Beirut's southern suburbs, the Israeli army started its attacks, with one airstrike hitting Ghobeiri and the second hitting the Haret Hreik neighborhood of Bir al-Abed, all in the course of 10 minutes. The evacuation warnings are only published on X and do not indicate safe routes.
