Iran is not "seeking" escalation but "has the right to legitimate defense," the Iranian foreign minister said Tuesday from Pakistan regarding a possible response to the Israeli strikes on Oct. 26 against Iran.
"Unlike Israel, the Islamic Republic of Iran does not seek escalation but we reserve our inalienable right to self-defense," Abbas Araghchi said at a press conference alongside his Pakistani counterpart Ishaq Dar in Islamabad.

Iran's foreign minister arrived in the Pakistani capital Islamabad on Tuesday for a two-day official visit to discuss a range of issues including Middle East tensions and improving bilateral relations, officials said on Tuesday.

In a statement published on Telegram, the pro-Iranian group claimed to have "attacked a military target in the north of the occupied territories, using a drone" adding that it intends to continue its operations "at an increasing pace."
In a call with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on Monday, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken "reviewed the steps Israel has taken to date and urged further action to significantly increase and maintain humanitarian assistance – including food, medicine and other essential supplies – to civilians throughout the Gaza Strip," the U.S. State Department said, according to AFP.
Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin warned Israel that Washington could withhold some weapons shipments if progress was not made by next week on delivering aid to the Gaza Strip.
The call comes on the eve of the US presidential election, in which Republican candidate Donald Trump has promised to give Israel more leeway if he wins.
During the same call, the head of American diplomacy mentioned "the efforts underway to reach a diplomatic solution in Lebanon that allows Lebanese and Israeli civilians to return home safely."
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot will travel to Israel and the Palestinian territories on Wednesday to call for a cease-fire in Gaza and "respect for international humanitarian law," he announced on France 2.
"France has a vocation to carry messages and that is why I will go tomorrow evening to Israel and the Palestinian territories to meet the authorities, the humanitarian actors, to carry the voice of France in this region where the war has already lasted far too long," said Barrot.
In addition to the cease-fire, the French diplomat wants to insist on "respect for international law." "Violations of international humanitarian law are unacceptable and must stop," he stated. Barrot had already visited Israel on the occasion of the first anniversary of Oct. 7.

At least six Palestinians were killed on Tuesday in military raids and airstrikes carried out by the Israeli army in several towns in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian Health Ministry reported, citing Reuters. The latter said two people were killed in the town of Qabatiya and two others in the Tammoun region.
Separately, an Israeli drone strike targeted the village of Muthalath al-Shuhada, south of Jenin, killing two more Palestinians, the Wafa news agency reported. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Monday deplored that Hamas had again rejected a temporary truce in the Gaza Strip, in a call with his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty, according to AFP.
In a phone call with the latter, Blinken "noted that Hamas has once again refused to release even a limited number of hostages in order to obtain a cease-fire and relief for the people of Gaza," according to a statement from the State Department.
A Palestinian movement official said Friday that the Palestinian Islamist movement had refused to consider a proposal for a short-term truce in the Gaza Strip from the mediating countries – the United States, Egypt and Qatar – because it did not include a permanent cease-fire.
The U.S. Secretary of State "stressed the importance of ending the war in Gaza, ensuring the release of all hostages and increasing and maintaining the delivery of humanitarian aid," according to the statement.
During the night, in south Lebanon, several Israeli strikes were reported, including: On the outskirts of the town of Hanawieh (Sour), in an uninhabited area as well as on the center of Khiam (Marjayoun), also targeted by Israeli artillery fire. The area between the towns of Sir Gharbieh and Qossebeh (Nabatieh) was targeted by an airstrike.
Hezbollah claimed in a statement to have attacked around midnight a gathering of Israeli army forces on the southwestern outskirts of the town of Maroun al-Ras (Bint Jbeil) with a "salvo of missiles."
This morning, around 6:30 a.m., two large salvos of missiles were fired toward Israeli territory, according to information from L'Orient Today's correspondent.
After 8:00 a.m., new Israeli strikes targeted Arab Salim, Kfar Tebnit (Nabatieh) and a neighborhood in the town of Shahabieh (Sour), causing heavy material damage to homes without any casualties having been reported yet. Other strikes also hit the farm of Msharef (Sour), Khraibeh (Saida) and Arnoun (Nabatieh).
At least 29 Palestinians were killed early Tuesday in Israeli airstrikes on tents sheltering displaced people in several areas of Gaza, including Beit Lahia, Deir Al-Balah and the town of Al-Zawayda, according to the official Palestinian news agency WAFA, relayed by Reuters.
According to WAFA, 20 people were killed in a heavy airstrike on a house in Beit Lahia, located in the northern part of Gaza. At least six of them were killed while they were in tents.
The Israeli army said it intercepted a drone coming from the east over southern Israel, in the Dead Sea region, on Tuesday.
"A drone that entered Israeli territory from the east was intercepted" by the Israeli air force, the army wrote in a statement, without specifying where the drone came from.

In Israel, the Families Forum, the main association of relatives of hostages held in the Gaza Strip, demanded on Monday that full light be shed on the affair of the leak of documents which has tarnished the Israeli prime minister and could have harmed an agreement on the release of the hostages.
"Currently, the Palestinian people depend almost entirely on aid from abroad, especially from UNRWA, and cutting it off is tantamount to killing the entire Palestinian people," said Abdel Karim Kallab in Khan Younis, in southern Gaza.
Hamas said Israel's decision "is an attempt to deny refugees the right to return to their homes."
The movement also said on Monday that it spoke with its rival Fatah in Cairo about the war in Gaza and efforts to reach a Palestinian national consensus.
In a phone call with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken "noted that Hamas has once again refused to release even a limited number of hostages to secure a cease-fire and relief for the people of Gaza," according to a State Department statement.
Hamas said on Friday that it had refused to consider a proposal for a short-term truce in the Gaza Strip from mediating countries because it did not include a permanent cease-fire.
The war has been going on since Oct. 7, 2023, and the Hamas attack that left 1,200 dead in Israel. In retaliation, Israel has drowned the Gaza Strip in bombs and reinforced the blockade that has already existed since the 2000s on the enclave, killing more than 43,000 Palestinians in just over a year.
On the eve of the presidential election in the United States, Israel's main ally, diplomatic efforts to end these hostilities have remained unsuccessful.
According to UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini, the daily average of trucks allowed by Israel to enter Gaza fell to 30 in October, which "is not enough to meet the needs of more than 2 million people, many of whom are hungry and sick and living in desperate conditions."
A week after the Knesset voted on a law banning UNRWA activities in Israel, the Israeli Foreign Ministry "notified the UN on Monday of the cancellation of the agreement between Israel and UNRWA," according to a statement.
The agreement dates back to 1967 when Israel began its occupation of the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and Gaza, as well as East Jerusalem, where UNRWA provided essential aid for decades - education, health, social services, food and cash assistance.
Israel again accused "employees of the organization of having participated in the massacre of Oct. 7, 2023.
"If the law is implemented, it risks causing the collapse of the international humanitarian operation in Gaza, of which UNRWA is the backbone," warned Jonathan Fowler, a spokesperson for the agency.
" There is simply no alternative to UNRWA," Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus reacted on X, for whom the ban "will not make Israel safer" but will "only increase the suffering" of the Palestinians.
Israel told the U.N. that the ban on UNRWA would come into effect after "a period of three months."
Gaza's Health Ministry on Monday accused the Israeli army of "bombing and destroying" the Kamal Adwan Hospital, the only one still functioning in the northern Gaza Strip, reporting "numerous injuries among medical staff and patients."
The facility's director, located in Beit Lahia, Houssam Abou Safia, described a "catastrophic" situation after strikes without prior warning. "The third floor of the facility was reportedly hit again, injuring six children," World Health Organization chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told X.
The Israeli army said it verified the reports. It had previously said it was "operating against terrorist infrastructure and agents in the north and center" of the Palestinian territory, an area where it launched an offensive on Oct. 6, saying it wanted to defeat units of the Palestinian Islamist movement.
