ISF removes displaced people's tents from Ramlet al-Baida

The Lebanese Internal Security Forces (ISF) said on Thursday that they had removed the tents of displaced people from the Ramlet al-Baida coastal area of Beirut, claiming that the people there had found shelter elsewhere.

“After informing displaced Lebanese, Syrians, Palestinians and other nationalities on several occasions that they must leave the Ramlet al-Baida corniche and find other shelters, members of the ISF, assisted by a State Security patrol, removed the remaining tents from the premises,” the ISF said in a statement, noting that no incidents were reported during the operation. “The Lebanese moved to shelters in Beirut and the other displaced people left the capital,” it added.

There are currently over 1.4 million displaced people in Lebanon, according to the latest figures released on Monday by the outgoing Foreign Affairs Minister, Abdallah Bou Habib. These displaced people come from southern Lebanon and from the southern suburbs of Beirut and the Bekaa, regions shelled by the Israeli army, which claims to be targeting “Hezbollah installations and fighters.”
