“The United States rejects any Israeli attempt to starve Palestinians in Gaza,” U.S. envoy to the U.N. Linda Thomas-Greenfield told a U.N. Security Council meeting in New York on Tuesday, adding that ”Israel's words must be matched by concrete action on the ground. This is not the case at the moment.”

Meanwhile, the World Food Programme (WFP) on Tuesday called for immediate action to avert famine in the Gaza Strip, claiming that the humanitarian crisis could soon worsen due to “severe” restrictions on the delivery of aid.

“As the situation in northern Gaza continues to deteriorate, the likelihood of a larger group being affected by starvation will certainly increase unless conditions on the ground improve,” said WFP, calling for more crossing points to be opened.

“Israel must allow access to food, medicine and other supplies throughout Gaza, and protect the workers responsible for distributing them,” called Linda Thomas-Greenfield.

She also stressed that there was “no alternative” to UNRWA fulfilling this mission in Gaza, expressing the United States' “real concerns” about Israel's new law against the U.N. agency.
