UNIFIL said the rocket fired earlier at its Naqoura headquarters, causing eight light injuries, was sent “from the north.”
“This afternoon, a rocket hit the UNIFIL headquarters in Naqoura, setting fire to a vehicle workshop. The peacekeepers were not in the bunkers at the time,” it said in a statement. “The rocket was fired from the north, probably by Hezbollah or an affiliated group. We have opened an investigation into this incident,” she continued. She added: “We remind Hezbollah and all actors of their obligation to ensure the safety of U.N. personnel and property. Any deliberate attack against them is a grave violation of international humanitarian law and Resolution 1701.”
According to the Austrian Ministry of Defense, the attack wounded eight Austrian peacekeepers, none of whom required “urgent medical care, as the wounds were light and superficial,” it said, while “strongly condemning” this hostile action against U.N. troops.
If confirmed, this would be the first attack since the beginning of the party's war against UNIFIL, which has already come under repeated fire from the Israeli army.
