Threats to dialogue with the Kurds after Ankara’s attack
The attack, which the authorities blamed on the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), could undermine Ankara’s recent efforts to open dialogue with Kurdish representatives.

On Oct. 23, a man and a woman opened fire at the headquarters of one of the top aerospace firms in Turkey, Tusaş, killing five people and wounding 22. Although no one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, the Turkish authorities blamed it on the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which Ankara classifies as a terrorist group. The latter has been waging an armed struggle against the Turkish state since the 1980s. Ali Ornek, a militant of the Kurdish group, was identified as one of the two attackers, after he and his accomplice were shot dead by Turkish special intervention forces in the wake of the deadly attack. The targeted firm produces the Anka and Aksungur drones, which Turkey has used in its operations against the PKK in Syria and Iraq.
