BEIRUT — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Wednesday that Lebanon submitted a new complaint to the U.N. Security Council regarding the "Israeli aggression against Lebanon during the period from Oct. 3 to 14," as part of periodic complaints to pressure the international community and the security council to take action to stop the aggression.
This is the second complaint lodged this week by Lebanon's Permanent Mission to the UN, and its third since mid-September and the start of the Israeli escalation. On Monday, a complaint concerning the effects of Israeli aggression on Lebanon's education sector had already been submitted to the Security Council.
'Continued violation of Lebanon's sovereignty'
According to the ministry's statement published by the state-run National News Agency (NNA), Lebanon condemned "Israel's continued violation of its sovereignty by sea, land and air, and its targeting of Lebanese army posts, ambulance and relief organizations, and civilians not participating in hostilities by indiscriminate shelling of towns and villages."
The ministry gave examples of specific incidents to support its complaint, mentioning deadly Israeli airstrikes on the village of Aitou (Zgharta district), the neighborhoods of Nuwairi, Ras al-Nabeh in central Beirut, the targeting of water transfer stations in southern Lebanon, the Masnaa border crossing, the vicinity of the Baalbek temple and the historic Nabatieh market.
Lebanon condemned Israel's surprise "airstrikes in cities, villages and populated neighborhoods, with no regard for the lives of civilians."
"Israel is attempting by force and hostile military means to impose its vision of security in the region against the sovereignty, security and safety of the countries and peoples of the region, using claims that are not based on any evidence or proof to prove the narrative it adopts, especially about its claim of self-defense," the statement reads.
Moreover, Lebanon called on the Security Council to condemn the "widespread and ongoing Israeli aggression against Lebanon and its people, and the ground invasion of its territory" and reiterated its call on the Council to "compel Israel to fully implement Security Council Resolution 1701 by immediately ceasing hostilities and withdrawing immediately from all Lebanese territories."
Since the start of the conflict between Hezbollah and Israel more than a year ago, the Israeli army killed more than 2,350 people in Lebanon.
