The CEO of "Middle East Airlines" (MEA), Mohammad el-Hout, stated on Friday that he received "guarantees from Lebanese authorities and some Western embassies that Beirut International Airport will remain safe from (Israeli) attacks, regardless of the evacuation of foreign nationals or the end of this campaign."
Mr. el-Hout was speaking after a meeting with the Minister of Economy Amine Salam, who came to congratulate him in his office for MEA's performance since the Israeli escalation on September 23rd. Israeli air forces regularly bomb the southern suburbs of Beirut, not far from the airport, and most global airlines have suspended their connections with Beirut. MEA, however, ensures an average of 36 outbound and 36 inbound flights daily to compensate for this lack, according to its CEO.
Mr. Salam, for his part, asserted that the AIB "is at the center of significant global interest." "All countries are making substantial efforts to ensure the airport remains safe and open, despite the delicate circumstances Lebanon is going through," he said.
